M3 “General Lee” Medium Tank

OOB example from Hasegawa

The History

The M3 tanks were designed as a interum replacement for the under armed/armoured inter war era M2 tanks. Like the French Char B1 Bis, it was fitted with a sponson mounted main (75mm) low velocity gun, and a smaller (37mm)high velocity gun mounted on the turret. Due to its low off-road speed and high silouette, it was not favoured, and relegated to support rolls after the release of the M4 Sherman.

The Model

I brought this kit to participate in the Tanks and Thinks Braille Scale Bonanza, but have not had time to finish it in the time permitted. I brought one of these kits many years ago when I first started modelling, and found it to be a nice kit to build, nice detail, and good fitment. The downside is it is 15 years later and about 10 gazillion releases later of the kit, so the dies have started to wear, and there is lots of flash to clean up as well as warped parts to contend with.
